Below are a few stories from the Old Testament relating to the Babylonian exile and later years. The Exilic period began when Jerusalem fell to the Babylonians in 586 B.C. and lasted until 539 B.C. when the Persians overtook the Babylonians. The Persian king Cyrus allowed the Jews to return in order to rebuild the temple.
